Betadine prep to sterilize operative field

   Once the patient is safely anesthetized with the airway device in place, the operative field is sterilized using multiple applications of a germicidal agent, usually Betadine. This substance contains iodine, and some patients are allergic to this substance. We will inquire about this before surgery so other sterilizing agents can be substituted if necessary.
