Moving to the operating room

When it is time to start the case, a member of the nursing staff moves the patient to the operating room. Larger children and adults are carried on a bed with guard rails while infants are usually held in the nurses arms. The patient is carefully transferred to the operating table, positioned, and safely secured before the anesthetic is administered.

This child's left eye will be operated, and this has been identified with a "Yes/No" marker above the eyebrows as a reminder to the staff. I always have the chart open with the pre-op plan, which I check before starting the case. We do not think that one can be too safe when operating on the eyes.
