Color Vision Testing Some children may experience difficulties distinguishing colors, usually shades of red and green. Red-green color deficiencies are usually inherited, expressed in males and carried by females (X-linked). Other color deficiency patterns exist but are much less common. We use the Hardy-Rand-Ritter plates to test color vision, supplementing this with the Ishihara plates in certain instances. Patients must be able to identify shapes or patterns, and this may confuse younger children. The test is not recorded unless it is clear that the child understands the test. |
