Loose Lens Retinoscopy

After the drops have taken effect, we return to the exam room. The optical power of the eye is determined objectively using a retinoscope. This device projects a streak image through the dilated pupil onto the retina. The image is reflected back through the lens, pupil, and cornea, forming a visible image for the observer. By manipulating the movement of this image with lenses, the eye's power can be determined quite accurately - the child does not need to respond verbally.
